thoughts on courage...

Not mine, of course.

Cottage Courage is a contradiction in terms.

I mean this girl. Woman. Person.

That I were young enough to tilt at windmills,
and brave enough to not let anything stop me from doing it.

Amen.

  1. My hat is off to Marisol Valles GarcĂa, or should that be Sombrero? Things have gotten so crazy down there and it makes me so mad. Mexico is a beautiful country filled with the most gracious people. I wish her all the best.

  2. Now that I think of it....I wonder if there is a way that we could get together and send her some encouragement and thank her for her bravery??

  3. That's a great idea, Gwennie...

When Lance and I talk about where we would live if we could choose anywhere in the world, it's always Mexico. The converge of new and old world cultures can't really be duplicated anywhere else.

It's a complex problem Mexico suffers under - everyone likes to try to compartmentalize the causes, but it's nearly impossible to do so. And further politicizing the drug war, or not, or poverty, or not, or official corruption, or not, helps no one, except the criminal element of each demographic. Unfortunately, much of Central and South America deal with similar problems. Heartbreaking.

  4. I wish the girl lots of luck because I think she is going to need it. My girlfriend's husband is from Mexico and she has visited a couple of times with her husband and children. I am not sure of the name of the area he is from but I know she does not like going to visit. It is not a glamorous Mexico, the floors are dirt, the family of 5 daughters and their parents live in one small house. She said the sanitary conditions would drive a neat freak crazy. She said it is nice that her children can see their cousins and the family is close but there is a langage barrier that does not help.

  5. I don't know if that girl is a martyr or insane or eternally hopeful.

I was watching the news thinking all of these things...She has some good ideas but I really don't know how long she will last to implement them all.

She needs help. I hope there are those who will stand with her.

Courage for sure. Youthful optimism absolutely.

  6. Alaina - I know - the dirt floors, no plumbing...it's hard to accept, but there are people in the US who live exactly the same way. Those who live with a "less than" standard condition here are considered rare and in crisis...there (meaning anywhere but the US), they're the quaintly impoverished. None of those assessments is the entire truth.

Berries, she's all that! I'll pray that St. John of Capistrano, Patron of Jurists, and St. Michael - stand with her! (and me - me too!)
